… With full gaze the animal sees the open.
Only our eyes, as if reversed, are like snares
set around it, block the freedom of its going...
- Rainer Marie Rilke, Eight Elegy
Full Gaze is an ongoing project whittled down from a surplus of capture methods and image archives. Each piece simultaneously gives and withholds, straddled between the seduction of information and its failure to impart knowledge. These works reflect a frustrated desire to make sense of the present, made increasingly difficult by the proliferation of individual and cultural reinterpretations of the past.
